Spence holds an Honours Bachelor of Science, Applied Chemistry and has over thirty years of experience working in the field of consumer and health products, in the areas of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs.  Throughout his career Spence has developed and implemented strategies and policies to achieve and maintain regulatory compliance with both Health Canada and the FDA, and to meet and exceed business objectives. Spence is a Subject Matter Expert in Quality Management Systems in regulated and GMP environments.

For Quality Assurance, Spence has designed and implemented Quality Management Programs, including SOPs and GMP training, and continued maintenance of quality systems.  This includes investigation of  manufacturing/QA issues and implementation of CAPA steps to find acceptable permanent solutions. Another important aspect of the QMS is Adverse Event Reporting: Maintain company’s AER files & prepare annual report to Health Canada.

Spence also has significant experience with conducting on-site audits and validations of suppliers (manufacturers, analytical labs) and self-inspection audits to ensure continued GMP compliance. He is also a Certified SQF Lead Auditor with specialty in the Dietary Supplements category. SQF is one of the recognized schemes under the Global Food Safety Initiative.

Spence has a proven ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with government/regulatory agencies (Federal, Provincial and Municipal), business partners and key stakeholders. He has served as the lead contact for all government department communications with other companies prior to joining dicentra.
